On Being Average and Sex

Have you driven a BMW before? It really is an experience. When you press the gas there is no play, the steering is tight, and the headrest is perfectly placed. Every little detail is thought out. BMW doesn’t have a marketing team. Just engineers that make kick ass autos.

Domestic auto manufactures spend billions attempting to convince us their products are ship worthy while foreign auto manufactures spend little on advertising but place great emphasis on producing amazing vehicles.

Kodak is another example. They used to make bad assed cameras that took amazing photos. But now they make cameras with big screens that hook into your photo dock so you can print out your shit ass photos. Meanwhile Canon is making simple cameras, with small screens, that take amazing photos.

So Canon makes cameras professional photographers love, and BMW makes automobiles racing professional’s love. Now picture a bell curve of camera buyers. Professional photographers would be the far left extreme occupying a minute part of the market. Suits at Kodak decided they wanted to go for the biggest market chunk. And hence they make average cameras, for average chumps. But the thing is Americans fucking hate being Average. And average people are still buying Canon over Kodak anyway because people who know what they’re doing use Canon. Being Average is risky. Risky as fuck.

Being average is an awful business strategy. It’s even worse for your sex life. Being average sends mixed signals to the opposite sex making you look like you lack conviction in your beliefs. If you’re liberal be a bloody fucking liberal. If you’re conservative go to church, swear off sex till marriage, and bash homosexuals. The purists are at the extremes and its hard not to be attracted to someone who is so fanatical about their beliefs that they take on a religious zeal.

Notably purists are remarkable. The thing about remarkable people is they are worth remarking about. People want to talk about them. They create a brand in of around themselves and what American doesn’t love a good brand name.

BMW attracts average consumers by catering to a niche market. By casting ourselves within a narrow scope we too would attract large amounts of potential suitors. Embracing our individuality spurs passion, igniting romance. So be fucking proud of who you are. Don’t be afraid to wear your emotions on your sleeve. And never ever be afraid to tell someone you disagree with to fuck off.
